Regional Allwrite!

The Regional Allwrite! program for 2005 will build upon the marvellous and successful 2003 tour with an all-new program of nine authors visiting schools and Communities in country South Australia.

Nine writers/illustrators will tour South Australia’s regional and remote Communities, offering Meet the Writer sessions and Interactive Workshops to young people. Phillip Gwynne, of ‘Deadly, Unna?fame, will be in Woomera and Roxby Downs, while Elizabeth Hutchins, who is an experienced school session presenter, and whose books range from picture books to young adult titles, will visit Kangaroo Island. Justin D’Ath, whose books are full of fun and laughter will travel to Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge, and Port Lincoln and Ceduna will host Mike Dumbleton, whose gritty and engrossing novel, ‘Watch out for Jamie Joelwas recently published.

Noted South Australian illustrator Sascha Hutchinson will go to the schools of the Riverland, while the Yorke Peninsula will welcome Elizabeth Honey, author of ‘Moon in the Man’, a book of action rhymes, as well as other novels and picture books. Meanwhile, Nette Hilton will be in the Mid-North, at Clare and Peterborough, to share the story of her recently published ‘Grave Catastrophe’.

The illustrator and cartoonist John Hilliard will be in schools in Port Augusta, Leigh Creek and Whyalla, sharing his love of cartooning with students; and Bill “Swampy” Marsh is off to the remote Indigenous Communities in outback South Australia, including Indulkana and Ernabella, where he will share yarns and sing his outback ballads.

There are a number of shows in the Come Out artistic program which directly relate to Allwrite!

In the Schools Touring program there’s Hip Hop Monologues, showcasing stimulating new writing, and led by Fin Kruckemeyer, the recipient of a New Writers Initiative Grant, from the Australia Council’s Literature Board. The Ides is a new play written by 17 year-old South Australian Matthew Clayfield. Getting Physical is an active show about the relationship between words, music and movement.

The Poetry Competition – Reclaiming Humanity. Words to play with and to create a poem which is fun, fantastic or frivolous. This is a Statewide Schools Competition, to involve young people from 5-18 years. The invitation is to explore the theme Being Human. A selection of students’ poetry will be exhibited and students will be invited to read their poetry in a public forum.
