The Hanging Tree is to be a new devised contemporary performance work created in partnership with Kaurna Palti Meyunna, Budgie Lung Theatre Company and Come Out.
The performance is motivated by aspects of Kaurna history and culture in layers of images, music, dance and narration. The work draws on a true South Australian story from a dreadful chapter in the history of relations between the Kaurna people and white settlers to what became the Adelaide region. The inclusion of this work-in-progress showing of Wayu Kaintyirendi: The Hanging Tree is part of the festival’s commitment to the development of new Indigenous work and the evolution of the form of contemporary Indigenous story telling.
| VENUE | The staged reading will be outdoors, in the vicinity of the original tree at Pinky Flat |
