“I saw Stoneface in its home country of Denmark a couple of years ago and was immediately reminded of the sheer power of theatre without words because of its layers of meaning. I thoroughly recommend this gentle production, especially for children who think visually and emotionally.”
Come Out Festival Director Sally Chance
The story of a traveller looking for a place to rest, a friend to play with, the source of music, romance and dreams. Blown in on a puff of smoke he arrives in a new town. Initially he thinks he is alone until he realises there is another living there, a musician. His attempts to join in with him, his failures and final success move him through frustration, invention, disappointment and despair to triumph. But he then has to decide is this really the place for him? Finally he leaves as he came: carried away in a puff of smoke.
This simple but moving story is told without words, drawing on the traditions of mime, clowning and the narrative skills of silent movies. Inspired specially by the spirit and work of Buster Keaton and including a magical moment where film comes to life, it is a production full of beautiful stage pictures.
