“A teacher visiting Come Out 2003 from the South East emerged with her class from Fresh Track’s The Return literally trembling from the power and excellence of that production. Marathon promises the same impact. A great introductory play and a satisfying, sharply directed work for regulars, Marathon is simply great theatre with an intriguing and transcendent conclusion.”
Come Out Festival Director Sally Chance
In training for the New York Marathon, Steve is determined and disciplined while Mark hangs back and complains at every opportunity.
As these two friends run through the night they dissect the masculinity that lies at the heart of their endeavour and search for a point of true connection. On this road, however, nothing is what it seems - Marathon is a journey which is at once real in its physicality and spiritually profound in its exploration of friendship. As the play sprints towards its conclusion it becomes clear exactly where the two friends are running to and why.
From one of Australia’s hottest theatre companies - and presenters of the intense “The Return” in Come Out 2003 - comes a high energy interpretation of the acclaimed play by Italian playwright, Edoardo Erba. An Australian Premiere.
