“Restless Dance Company says more in a single sweep of articulate gestures than any lengthy speech. Sustenance is ideal viewing for young people for whom actions speak louder than words and who are able to let a rush of images play on their interpretation of the work. Emotional and thought provoking dance theatre.”
Come Out Festival Director Sally Chance
Sustenance explores perceptions; the way we try on different personas in order
to fit our everyday landscape.
We play so many roles in life that sometimes it’s hard to keep up. It’s
like hearing your own voice played back on a tape recorder and you just can’t
believe that is what you sound like, or looking at an old photograph and not
remembering who you were back then.
How we perceive ourselves and how we are perceived can shift in a second. A spoken word, a glance, how a day unfolds; it all impacts on who we are.
Sustenance is a chance to begin to understand what we need for our own survival. A chance to affirm our needs and wants; to discover what makes us unique, what drives us and what we must have in order to sustain ourselves.
