Unlocking The Universal Story
Young People and the Arts Australia (YPAA) - ASSITEJ Australia and Come Out 2007
Unlocking the Universal Story is a moveable feast of performances, speakers and discussion that will bring to life the artistic theme of the Festival, exploring a world of possibilities for artists who create art with and for young people.
Arts practitioners are invited to take part in this exciting two-day meeting of the minds, which will encourage fresh dialogue and essential critical thought about our Young People and the Arts sector.
Three speakers from across Australia will articulate ideas on the making and sharing of unique stories for young audiences.
These ideas will be illuminated in performances of Headhunter by Polyglot Puppet Theatre and Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Co-operative (VIC), Hickory Dickory Dock by Patch Theatre Company (SA) and Reckless Valour by Quantum Leap from the Australian Choreographic Centre (ACT). Shows and presentations will be followed by facilitated discussion of both the performances and the ideas raised by the speaker.
YPAA is Australia’s membership organisation for arts professionals who engage children and young people in the arts. It is the national peak body providing a crucial link between members, and between the sector and government.
YPAA is also the Australian centre for ASSITEJ, the international association for theatre for children and young people, and the co-presenter with SAYAB and Come Out of the 2008 ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival.
Unlocking the Universal Story is one of a series of events produced by YPAA to feed into the ASSITEJ Congress.

Participant Registration and Information packages will be distributed in January 2007. They will announce the speakers, topics and full timetable for Unlocking the Universal Story.
