Young Guns 8 playwrights competition

Year level:
8-12
Age:
13-19

State Theatre Company of South Australia

An annual script writing competition for young playwrights. Now in its eighth year, Young Guns gives young people the opportunity to submit a script and have it judged by a panel of theatre experts.

The Competition:

Scripts are due at State Theatre on Friday 13 April 2007 and writers are encouraged to put pen to paper immediately! Winners are announced in The Advertiser.

Scripts must be the original work of the writer, not previously published or performed, and all entrants must be South Australian. Winners receive a fabulous series of dramaturgy sessions with State Theatre Company Associate Director, Michael Hill, alongside a team of professional actors. There’s also a cash prize!

Emerging artists brought into the spotlight by the competition include Matthew Clayfield, whose 2003 winning script The Ides played at Come Out 2005.

The Showcase:

During Come Out the winning and workshopped scripts are performed at the Dunstan Playhouse.

Book now for your chance to see and hear brand new South Australian scripts and meet their authors, hosted by Michael Hill.

“The Young Guns competition is a great vehicle to discover, nurture and support new South Australian talent.”

Adam Cook, Artistic Director, State Theatre Company of SA

Scripts may include moderately strong language, drug references and sexual references.
