Professional collective (SA)
The hard-edged story of two adolescent boys facing an uncertain future. They live in a tough area, with tough families. They want ‘the life’, but prospects don’t look good.
Then Vin enters their lives. He’s a confident guy about town, and seems to have it all. With a promise of ‘the life’ Vin convinces the two boys to enter into an illegal scam.
More than this, Vin is a catalyst for change in the boys’ friendship, bringing each to reveal their innermost secrets and assert who they are.
Vin is about young men’s expectations of themselves and each other, and the tensions that exist as they juggle independence, identity, sexuality and friendships.
Written and directed by Stephen House and winner of the 2004 AWGIE Award for best Theatre for Young People script.
“House peels away the façade to expose the vulnerability of his characters, as they struggle to assert meaning to their lives. His language rings with the tough and brutal rhetoric of his characters – crude and defiant, gentle and achingly real.”
The Canberra Times, 2005
This work contains strong language, sexual references and drug references.
Commissioned by Jigsaw Theatre Company in 2003 under the artistic direction of Greg Lissaman.
