Headhunter

Year level:
Reception - Year 7
Age:
5-12

Gina and Rick are cousins and they’re on the road. Since Nan passed away they have a few things to sort out and a couple of secrets they’re not willing to share.

This road trip adventure of two young Indigenous people is told with puppetry, original music and a very cool car.

With the discovery of a talking statue in the boot, Gina realises Rick is in deep trouble. The cousins embark on a search for Nan’s birth place, with a crow as their guide. Along the journey they encounter some very famous people and events, and the audience feels the presence of this play’s invisible character - Nan herself.

Inspired by Archie Weller’s short story Confessions of a Headhunter that was made into a short film by Sally Riley.

Created in collaboration with Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Cooperative and with contributions from kids of the Koorie Open Door Education School, Glenroy.

Winner of the 2005 Drama Victoria award - Best production for Primary School Aged Children.

“A top class production with fabulous acting and puppets.”

M.Harkin, Maiden Gully Primary School
