Come Out 2007 has a serious goal; to be genuinely state wide, by offering a range of arts events and activities to all young South Australians, regardless of their geographical base. Play Ground is a step in this direction.
The Come Out team respects the creativity, experience and expertise of educators. Yes, it’s different! Instead of you ‘coming out’ to one location, the opening event of Come Out 2007 becomes central to your community and hundreds of other communities across the state.
On the Festival’s opening day, 8 May 2007, take over a Play Ground in your school or in your neighbourhood. Or create a temporary Play Ground, indoors or even on-line. Wherever you choose, decorate it, film it, create a performance within it, discover its Indigenous stories and local history and showcase it all in your own special event.
Play Ground aims to explore ideas about built and natural spaces, crossgenerational concepts of play, and ways to find out what makes your community special.
Work as a small group of pre-school students or several hundred primary and middle school students! All we ask is that you create your Play Ground special event on our official opening day. Then after the event, tell us all about it. We can’t wait to see what emerges.
Coordinating teachers are warmly invited to attend one of the Play Ground Professional Development workshops, where Come Out Festival artists will help with inspiration and practical ideas. We will provide a user-friendly framework for teachers and students to devise a fun educational event that is uniquely relevant to their community to mark the opening of Come Out 2007.
Join professional artist Roy Ananda and artist/event manager Andy Packer, alongside Aboriginal Educators and members of the Come Out team to explore ways of creating and implementing your special event.
